At Argyll East we aim to provide a meaningful child centred literacy programme that will help develop skills and strategies your child needs in order to become an effective communicator in our world.

Up to date teaching programmes are based on assessment data. Your child is monitored as part of the daily teaching programmes. In this way the programme is flexible depending on the changing needs of your child.

If you go into a classroom when reading and writing are happening, you will see taskboards, children’s goals displayed and examples of work around the room. There will be a small class library and IT is also available. Strategies and skill charts are there for your child to use. Reading and writing activities will be happening and your teacher may be working with individuals, small groups or the whole class. There will be time for your child to read a variety of texts for enjoyment and your teacher will be reading too to foster the love of reading and writing.

In our 0-2 class we learn through play, which helps foster student inquiry for later years and helps children grow socially and emotionally so they are ready for "formal" learning. There is a focus on our school Habits and Values throughout our school but especially in Ruma Tahi (These are based on the Key Competencies in the curriculum).

Our guidelines for what these mean for students can be found in the documents below:
